K-12 Education


Our current and recent projects and partners in K-12 education include:
Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13

We are working with Lancaster-Lebanon IU 13  (Pennsylvania) on the evaluation of their Leveraging EbD-TEEMS to Scale STEM project. EbD-TEEMS (Engineering by Design – Technology, Engineering, Environment, Math, and Science) is a standards-based curriculum for grades K-5 STEM that emphasizes technology, engineering, and design. The project is designed to give all elementary school students in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, access to a high-quality STEM education.

We have worked with Lancaster-Lebanon IU 13 and the Pennsylvania Department of Education on the Keystones to Opportunity (KtO) project, a $200 million initiative designed to improve literacy learning outcomes and increase reading achievement among students in danger of academic failure from birth through grade 12. We have also worked with IU 13 on the evaluation of three of the U.S. Department of Education's Mathematics and Science Partnerships (MSP) projects. We have also worked with IU 13 on Lancaster STE(A)M, which is designed to promote STE(A)M literacy (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) as an economic driver in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Other projects we have evaluated for IU 13 include a three-year educational plan to provide Pennsylvania secondary school students with the knowledge and skills to make an informed decision about organ and tissue donation; a project aimed at increasing and enhancing the skills of teachers, administrators, and support staff in IU 13 school districts when working with English language learners; a project aimed at increasing and enhancing the skills of teachers, administrators, and support staff in IU 13 school districts when working with English language learners; and a Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools project, which was designed to create, strengthen, and improve emergency management plans in local school facilities.

Columbia University

We are working with Columbia University on the evaluation of their ExCELL (Exceptional Coaching for Early Language and Literacy) project, which is designed to train Pre-K and Kindergarten teachers in research-based strategies to develop English Learners' school readiness in language and literacy. The project includes development and pilot testing of an intervention, followed by a randomized control trial. This project is funded by the U.S. Department of Education. 

Health Care Careers Academy

We are working with the Health Care Careers Academy in Pennsylvania on the evaluation of a pilot project designed to bolster the STEM skills and pipeline of high school students entering health careers. The Health Care Careers Academy Partnership is a joint effort of the Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences, Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13, Harrisburg Area Community College, and the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania STEM Alliance. This project is funded by the BB&T Economic Growth Fund.

Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29

We are working with Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 (Pennsylvania) on the evaluation of their three 21st Century Community Learning Center projects, which are funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The goal of 21st Century projects is to provide students and their families with opportunities for innovative extended learning activities, rigorous yet engaging academic instruction, family literacy, and structured student enrichment.

Lebanon School District

We are working with Lebanon School District (Pennsylvania) on the evaluation of their 21st Century Community Learning Center project.
 
La Academia Partnership Charter School

We are working with La Academia Partnership Charter School (Lancaster, Pennsylvania) on the evaluation of their 21st Century Community Learning Center project.
 
Independence Charter School and Independence Charter School-West

We are working with Independence Charter School and Independence Charter School-West (Philadelphia) on the evaluation of their 21st Century Community Learning Center projects.

Pennsylvania Neglected and Delinquent Advisory Committee

We work with the Pennsylvania Neglected and Delinquent Advisory Committee to evaluate an annual leadership symposium for educators, social service providers, mental health practitioners, and administrators of agencies providing services to neglected and delinquent youth.
 
Temple University

We have worked with Temple University on the evaluation of their Coaching for Early Language and Literacy – Enhanced (ExCELL-E) project, which was designed to help Pre-K, K and 1st grade teachers employ high-quality teaching strategies that result in improved child language and literacy outcomes. ExCELL-E was funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

Delaware County Intermediate Unit

We have worked with Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU) on the evaluation of their U.S. Department of Education's Mathematics and Science Partnerships (MSP) projects.

Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo

We have worked with the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo on an evaluation of Read to Succeed Buffalo (RTSB), an organization dedicated to increasing early childhood literacy and third grade reading scores in the Buffalo (New York) area.

Center for Schools and Communities

We have worked with the Center for Schools and Communities on evaluations of Pennsylvania's Safe Schools Initiative, which is designed to assist schools in preventing or reducing violence committed by youth and against youth on school property, and on transportation to and from school.
