Who We Are
The principals at By The Numbers are Dr. Cathy Kassab and Dr. David Abler. Together, they have over 40 years of combined experience in statistics, surveys, needs assessments, focus groups, and project and program evaluation. They formed By The Numbers in 1997.
By The Numbers is certified as a woman-owned business by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of Delaware. By The Numbers is a member of the U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce and the Clearfield (Pennsylvania) Chamber of Commerce.
Cathy Kassab, Ph.D.
The Facts:
Dr. Kassab has a doctorate in rural sociology from Penn State University. She also holds advanced degrees in statistics, community development, and organizational theory. Dr. Kassab has worked as a program evaluation specialist in the U.S. General Accounting Office, in the social service field as a drug and alcohol counselor, and as a VISTA volunteer on the Winnebago Indian Reservation.
The Person:
Infused with an incredible amount of personal energy and enthusiasm, Cathy's attitude is positively infectious. Her expertise is always reassuring. Cathy won the 2006 outstanding citizen of the year award from the State College, Pennsylvania Jaycees.
Dave Abler, Ph.D.
The Facts:
Dr. Abler earned his doctorate in economics from the University of Chicago. He has significant international experience in market analysis and program evaluation, including work in Canada, China, Costa Rica, France, India, Mexico, Nepal, Nicaragua, Peru, and the United Kingdom. He also has extensive statistical, econometric, and focus group experience. Dave is a co-recipient of the 2011 Partnership Award from USDA for his development work on two database-driven websites.
The Person:
Warm and quietly confident, Dave's spirit shines forth through his ability to explain complex issues in everyday terms that enhance the concepts.
